What People Say

Most spam originates as a result of you using your email address when signing up for a web site. This is when you are required to give your email address when you place an order, receive a free gift or to use the services of the web site.

If you were to sign up for 10 sites and just 1 of those sites shares its address list with someone else your address can easily become part of a massive internet industry... Spamming.

Most people use a single email address. You give your email address to 10 sites. When one site shares or sells your address, you will not know which one did so.

Since you used your address, you are now in a position where 10 sites that you actually want to receive mail from, all share the address with a number of spammers. They all send to the one address.

There are few options open to you, some of them are excellent at reducing and some can even stop spam altogether.

There are a multitude of spam filters, most are effective on mainstream spam and novice spam senders. However spam is now a billion dollar industry and the big players spend a lot of time working out ways to get through. Apart from this, one of the biggest disadvantage of spam filters is "False Positives". This is where a legitimate email will get marked as spam if the filters are too fine, yet setting the filters to discriminate less means that more spam will get through.

If you change your email address you will guarantee you do not get any of the spam again. The drawback of this method is that you now need to visit all the web sites to whom you have given your address, to tell them of your new address. And then, hope you don't tell the original spamming site the new address

How spam is stopped ( With TraceSpam )

Following the same example, with Tracespam.com, you sign up for your 10 websites. TraceSpam provides you with unlimited dedicated addresses. That means you can use a dedicated address for each account you sign up for.

The 9 sites that do not share your email address will send their mails to managed addresses and our servers will route them to you. However, the address used by the other website who have shared or resold it, will now be the brunt of mass spam mailings.

When you receive a spam message just look at the "to:" address and this can tell you which site it originated from.

If you still want mail from the original site you signed up with, you can either live with the spam (until it generates too much) or you can alter the address with the site and give them a new address, then turn off the compromised spam address.

If the site you have signed up for is using your address against their privacy statement and we have other members that have signed up for the same site, and report the site. We will provide a system audit of all interactions that can be used as evidence of their activities, either for pursuing them for compensation or legally, if you choose.
